After years of cramped apartment living, comedian/actress Kathy Griffin (you can see her special, The D-List, on Bravo this month) was thrilled to settle into her first home in the Hollywood Hills. "I love the views and the size," she says. "It's really big - I wanted a house where we would have plenty of room to spread out." The "we" includes husband Matt Moline and two stray dogs they adopted.
Although she loves the simple lines and open plan of the house, Kathy’s not a fan
of stark, modern rooms. So she hired a decorative painter to warm them up by adding bright, textured color to the walls. And she shopped for furniture herself. “I went everywhere. There are lots of little mom and pop furniture stores in L.A., which is perfect for me because I like to mix the old with the new.”
Kathy has a dream closet: a whole room outfitted with shelves, drawers and closet poles to keep her shoes and clothes in order. It’s a necessity with her busy schedule. The stairway to the bedrooms, is painted a cheery yellow, and Kathy furnished the landing with a large silvery mirror and a wrought-iron console from a flea market. The small bench — painted and then distressed — and the working gumball machine are typical of her decorating style. The upper level of the living room, right, functions as a den/library/media room. The open side gives it a spacious feeling. Soft, roomy sofas fill up
a corner on the lower level.
